2022-23 Sky Bet Championship: Week 45 – Sunday

Cardiff City host Huddersfield Town at Cardiff City Stadium in a crunch clash in the race for survival.

Victory would see Cardiff climb to 18th position in the table, whilst Huddersfield can climb to 20th and secure survival with a win.

Callum O’Dowda is ruled out for Cardiff after he suffered concussion in their midweek win at Rotherham.

Rubin Colwill (unspecified) could return but Ryan Allsop (adductor), Callum Robinson (hamstring), Ebou Adams (leg) and Jamilu Collins (ACL) remain absent.

Huddersfield could be without Johnathan Hogg as he continues to struggle with a hip injury suffered during their defeat at Swansea a fortnight ago.

Lee Nicholls (shoulder) could return but Anthony Knockaert (personal), Tino Anjorin, Duane Holmes (both ankle), Yuta Nakayama (Achilles) and Ollie Turton (knee) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Cardiff host Huddersfield in a 12pm BST kick-off at Cardiff City Stadium on Sunday 30 April, live on Sky Sports in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Cardiff have avoided defeat in five of their last seven meetings against Huddersfield (W4, D1, L2).
  • Huddersfield have claimed just one point from their last nine league visits to Cardiff (D1, L8).
  • Cardiff have won two of their last three meetings at home against Huddersfield by 2-1 result, except for 3-0 win in December 2020.
  • Sory Kaba has missed penalties in each of Cardiff’s last two matches.
  • No Huddersfield player has been involved in more league goals this season than Danny Ward, who has made four goals and assists apiece.

Prediction

Having eased their relegation fears with a win which has ultimately sealed safety following results on Saturday, Cardiff can afford to relax a bit coming into this clash after having clinically beaten Rotherham on Thursday evening amidst poor marking of the Millers’ equalising goal.

Huddersfield meanwhile have had almost two weeks off following a scrappy draw at Sunderland but with a tricky game in hand to come later this week against Sheffield United, they can’t afford to make a rusty start after defending well to snatch a point last time out on Wearside.

Neil Warnock’s Terriers though have struggled in recent visits to Cardiff and with the Bluebirds in buoyant spirits after securing safety, I wouldn’t be surprised if they turn up ready to celebrate their survival with a win.

Prediction: Cardiff 1-1 Huddersfield

Result: Cardiff 1-2 Huddersfield
