18 year-old striker, Evan Ferguson has signed a new long-term contract to stay at Brighton & Hove Albion until June 2028.

Having originally signed a four-year deal in his first-ever professional contract in October 2022 which was set to expire in June 2026, Ferguson has signed a fresh contract until June 2028 after enjoying a breakthrough season in which he has become a first-team regular.

Having made four appearances last season under Graham Potter, Ferguson started for Brighton in their Second Round win away to Forest Green Rovers in this season’s Carabao Cup, in which he set up Deinz Undanv’s 38th minute opening goal before scoring himself in injury-time.

The 18 year-old subsequently returned to youth-team duty for the Seagulls until after the FIFA World Cup, when he was named in the squad for Brighton’s final match of 2022, which they lost 4-2 to Arsenal at home despite Ferguson scoring in the second half.

Ferguson has since gone on to establish himself as a first-team regular under manager – Roberto De Zerbi who replaced Potter in September, and has managed to deliver eight goals and created three assists in 19 senior appearances in total across all competitions.

Addressing Ferguson’s decision to sign a new contract amidst interest from Premier League rivals and a host of top European teams, De Zerbi commented: “Evan’s contract extension is great news.

“He trains and plays like a senior player with many years of experience and has become an important member of the squad.”

On how he and everyone else at Brighton can help Ferguson continue his development beyond this season, De Zerbi added: “The aim is to help him become one of the strongest strikers in Europe.”

Ferguson is currently doubtful for Brighton’s league trip to Nottingham Forest as he continues to recover from an ankle injury, which forced him to miss their heartbreaking FA Cup exit against Manchester United on penalties in the semi-finals at Wembley Stadium, London.
