2022-23 Premier League: Week 26 – Crystal Palace vs Manchester City

Struggling Crystal Palace look to spring a surprise as they take on Manchester City at Selhurst Park.

Victory would see Palace stay 12th in the table and potentially move eight points clear of the relegation zone, whilst Man City can cut their title deficit to Arsenal down to two points with a win.

Cheick Doucoure is suspended for Palace after he was red carded in last weekend’s defeat at Aston Villa.

Sam Johnstone (calf) and Nathan Ferguson (fitness) both remain absent.

Man City could be without Phil Foden after he suffered a recurrence of an ankle injury in their win over Newcastle last weekend.

Manager, Pep Guardiola will also have one eye upon their Champions League clash against RB Leipzig on Tuesday.

When is Kick-Off?

Crystal Palace host Man City at Selhurst Park in a 5:30pm GMT kick-off on Saturday 11 March, live on Sky Sports in UK.

Stat Attack

  • Crystal Palace have won just one of their last six meetings against Man City (W1, D2, L3).
  • Man City are unbeaten in their last seven league visits to Palace (W5, D2).
  • Each of Palace’s three draws in the Premier League at home against City have finished goalless.
  • Palace are looking to avoid going ten consecutive league matches without a win for the first time since a 12-match winless streak between January – April 2016.
  • Phil Foden has scored in each of City’s last two away matches in all competitions (W2).

Prediction

Still without a win in 2023, Palace seem to be sliding further towards the relegation battle with poor end product again looking an issue, because they were creatively solid at Villa yet just lacked quality in the final third amidst an unlucky own goal and Doucoure’s sloppy discipline.

Man City meanwhile were crucially clinical in their win over Newcastle in an otherwise flat performance where their end product too was off, yet they were capable of getting the win thanks to solid defending which will stand them well here.

Pep Guardiola though will now have one eye on Tuesday’s clash against RB Leipzig but even if he shuffles his selection, I do expect them to deliver a convincing win unless Palace produce something stunning to end their rut.

Prediction: Crystal Palace 0-2 Manchester City

Result: Crystal Palace 0-1 Manchester City
