Midfielder, Bobby Pointon believes Bradford need “to take the occasion” out of their top of League One showdown against Huddersfield.

Michael Duff’s Bantams go into the West Yorkshire derby on 31 October at 12:30pm GMT sat fourth in the table and can move level with Huddersfield if they beat the Terriers, but would sit second on goal difference behind their rivals.

Pointon therefore is eager to push for victory against tough opponents as he spoke to the media in the Bantams’ pre-match preview, having beat them 3-1 at Valley Parade last season, in which the 22-year-old midfielder scored twice.

“Both teams have had a strong start to the season, and we will be going into the game looking to be competitive and take all three points.

“All of our focus is on them. We know they are a good side, but we are a good side as well, so we will be up there competing with them and try to make Saturday special.

“It is looking like being a sell-out and we have got to continue to build off last season’s performance, and how well we started that game and put them to bed.

“We have got to take the occasion out of it. It is just another game and I have got to focus on my performance and be the best I can to help the team hopefully get the win.”

Pointon also reflected back on their clash in Bradford last season as he spoke of his first West Yorkshire derby experience, and is relishing the chance to play in this fixture again.

“It was a massive day for me, it was the first West Yorkshire derby that I ever played in.

“It is a great game, both sets of fans are right up for it which projects onto all of the players. We can feel it when we are out there on the pitch.

“I am excited to have another opportunity to play in this fixture. There is a certain feel to this game which makes it so real and makes the derby what it is.

“I am excited for the game and I do not let the pressure get to me. It is something I thrive on. I am built into the occasion now, and as soon as that whistle goes, it is game time and I will do my all to try and get three points.”
