Brentford have signed striker Keane Lewis-Potter from Hull City in a £16m transfer deal.
Lewis-Potter first joined Hull aged 14 and successfully graduated through their youth academy to make his first-team debut in a 2-1 Third Round defeat at Millwall in 2018-19 FA Cup, before he joined Bradford Park Avenue on loan until conclusion of that season.
Upon returning to Hull for the start of 2019-20 season, Lewis-Potter went on to steadily establish himself as a first-team regular with 30 goals in 121 appearances across the last three seasons alone.
Lewis-Potter also picked up a hat-trick of club awards at end of last season as he was voted Players’ Player of the Season, Fans’ Player of the Season and overall Player of the Season as selected by Hull manager – Shota Arveladze.
The 21 year-old consequently leaves Humberside having scored 30 goals in 122 appearances in total, and has now signed a six-year contract at Brentford with option for one further season.
Speaking about Brentford’s latest recruit, Bees’ manager – Thomas Frank said that he was “pleased” to have secured “one of the biggest young talents” in English Football, after Lewis-Potter scored 13 goals and created four assists for Hull who finished 19th in the Championship last season.
On what fans can expect from Lewis-Potter and why Brentford chose to sign him now, Frank added: “We have a player who scores his goals by arriving in the box and attacking the last line. He gets in the position to convert the chances made for him.
“He is a flexible player, he can play both sides, as a striker and as a ten if we want to do that. He has a very good mentality.
“He fits the Brentford model perfectly. He is a good young player who we think has the qualities to play in the Premier League now. He will also develop even further.”
Brentford’s Director of Football, Phil Gilles added that Lewis-Potter’s six-year deal is a signal of their belief that he will be part of the club’s long-term future, as he said: “The length of contract demonstrates our faith in Keane to be a big player for us for many years. We are looking forward to him getting started.”
Hull issued a statement celebrating Lewis-Potter’s contributions throughout his time on Humberside in which they commented: “As one of our own, we would like to thank Keane for his significant contributions on and off the pitch during his time at the club, and wish him well in the Premier League with the Bees.”
Lewis-Potter could make his competitive debut for Brentford away at Leicester on Sunday 7 August in an untelevised Premier League clash at 2pm BST.
