Wolves have signed defender Nathan Collins from Burnley on a five-year contract for an undisclosed fee.
Collins began his career at youth club, Cherry Orchard in Ballyfermot, Dublin, Republic of Ireland, before moving to Stoke City in 2016 where he progressed through their academy system and made his first-team debut in April 2019 in a 3-1 away defeat at Swansea City.
The now 21 year-old went on to score twice in 47 appearances for the Potters who will receive a small sell-on fee, as part of their deal when Collins was sold to Burnley in June 2021.
Collins however struggled to break into the Clarets’ first-team with just eight appearances in all competitions by New Year, before he eventually made his breakthrough in the second-half of the season with two goals in 14 appearances as Burnley ultimately were relegated.
His performances though caught the eye of several clubs with Wolves ultimately securing the 21 year-old defender, who has signed a five-year contract with option for a further 12 months.
Wolves’ Technical Director, Scott Sellars spoke about the decision to sign Collins as he admitted that the club is “delighted” that their scouting of the defender in recent months has paid dividends, describing him as “a very talented young man” with plenty of domestic and international experience.
On what fans can expect from Collins, Sellars believes that Collins is a player who has “a lot of potential,” whilst also having physical tall athleticism and is comfortable on the ball both defensively and when pushing forward on the attack plus has “real aerial strength.”
Sellars also noted that Collins is “a good character,” with “leadership qualities,” who will provide England international, Conor Coady with tough competition in terms of central defence selection this season.
Burnley meanwhile tweeted a message of thanks to Collins ‘for all his efforts’ last season as they confirmed his departure for Wolves.
