Rangers have announced that Aaron Ramsey will join the club on loan from Juventus in a shock move for the reigning Scottish Champions.
Ramsey joined Juventus in summer 2019 after netting 64 goals in 371 appearances across 11 seasons at Arsenal, yet has struggled to make an impact in Italy with six goals in 83 appearances.
This season in fact has seen Ramsey fail to score in just five appearances which has led Juventus deciding to loan him to Rangers until the end of the season, with the Italian team paying the majority of his wages.
Speaking about his decision to move to Ibrox on loan, Ramsey said: “I am really pleased to be joining a club like Rangers, where there is so much to look forward to between now and May.
“I had a number of offers on the table, but none matched the magnitude of this club, with European football and the chance to play in front of 50,000 fans every other week.”
Ramsey also added that he had enjoyed “some fantastic conversations” with manager, Giovanni van Bronckhorst plus Sporting Director – Ross Wilson and can’t wait to start training plus meet his new teammates.
Van Bronckhorst meanwhile revealed that he is “absolutely delighted” to add Ramsey to his squad given the Welsh midfielder’s “quality, experience and leadership” which will be crucial as Gers fight domestically to retain their Scottish Premiership title as well as chase Scottish Cup glory.
Rangers are also still in European competition after qualifying for the Europa League Knockout Play-Offs, where they will face Borussia Dortmund in late February for a place in the Last 16.
Wilson added that Ramsey’s arrival marks “a really exciting” sign of Rangers’ intention to fight for trophies throughout the remainder of this season, after working hard to sign Ramsey following initial contact last week concerning his availability.
On how having Ramsey within the team will benefit the current squad members, Wilson commented: “Not only is Aaron a world-class player who will play a key role in our team, his level of ability and professional standards will be an inspiration to our existing players.”
Ramsey could make his debut for Rangers in a blockbuster Old Firm derby away to Celtic on Wednesday 2 February (7:45pm GMT) live on Sky Sports, with his home debut at Ibrox taking place on Sunday 6 February against Hearts also live on Sky Sports.
