Cardiff City have signed Jordan Hugill on loan from Norwich City until the end of 2021-22 season.

Hugill spent the first half of this season on loan at West Bromwich Albion where he only delivered one goal in 20 appearances, before Norwich opted to recall him yesterday (29 January) in order to complete a loan deal with Cardiff.

In a short statement about Hugill’s departure from The Hawthorns, West Brom commented: ‘Everybody at Albion thanks Jordan for his efforts and wishes him well in his future career.’

Cardiff will be Hugill’s seventh loan club after spending previous loan stints at Gateshead, Tranmere Rovers, Hartlepool United, Middlesbrough, QPR and West Brom respectively, although it is his second loan spell  since joining Norwich in August 2020.

Speaking about his loan switch to Cardiff, Hugill said: “I’m delighted to be here. It’s nice to be at a Club that values me. I’m really appreciative of that. I can’t wait to get firing.”

Steve Morison’s Bluebirds though are currently locked in a relegation battle despite sitting three points above the relegation zone in 20th position.

Acknowledging the Bluebirds’ precarious league position, Hugill insisted that he is ready to help their battle for survival as he added: “I’m looking forward to the fight. I feel like we’re in a bit of a false position at the moment. We’ve got a bunch of great players.

“I just want to get involved. I’d like to think I offer something different to what is already here and I’m really looking forward to getting my head down, fighting and scoring some goals.”

Norwich also issued a statement on Hugill’s loan move to Cardiff, in which they said: ‘Everyone at Norwich City wishes Jordan the very best for the rest of the season.’

Hugill will wear the number nine shirt and has gone straight into the starting line-up for Cardiff’s home clash against Nottingham Forest at 4pm GMT this afternoon live on Sky Sports.
