Hunter Yeany has confirmed he will return to F3 for the 2022 season as he switches from Charouz to Campos.
Yeany last season made his F3 debut at Spa Francorchamps, Belgium where he finished 18th on debut in the first of six races across two rounds that he contested for Charouz, although prior commitments meant that he missed the season finale in Sochi, Russia.
This season though will see the 16 year-old American mount a full F3 campaign as he joins Campos and on the announcement of his move, he said: “I’m really excited to announce that I’ll be doing the full season of FIA F3 with Campos Racing. I would like to thank Campos Racing for the opportunity and my family and friends for their support.”
Campos’ Sporting Director, Adrian Campos meanwhile extended “a warm welcome” to Yeany who is their second signing for this year’s F3 campaign, following confirmation of Pepe Marti on Wednesday (26 January).
Speaking of Yeany and Marti as a driver pairing and vowing to ensure Yeany progresses in his development, Campos commented: “Probably alongside Pepe they are the youngest drivers in the field but we perfectly know how talented he is.
“We will do our utmost to help him quickly improve in such competitive racing series and we are sure Hunter will reach his full potential.”
Campos will announce their third driver for the new F3 season in due course.
Yeany is the fourth driver announcement of today alone after Francesco Pizzi was confirmed at Charouz before Roman Stanek and Rafael Villagomez announced their seats at Trident and Van Amersfoort Racing respectively.
F3 will begin their season in Bahrain on 18-20 March in the first of nine rounds which includes visits to; Imola, Barcelona, Silverstone, Spielberg, Budapest, Spa Francorchamps, Zandvoort and Monza.
This season will also see F3 switch format to a two-race weekend across nine rounds after running three race-weekends across seven rounds in 2021.
