Charouz have announced that Francesco Pizzi will race for the Czech based team in the 2022 F3 season.

Pizzi’s move to F3 comes after a difficult second season of single seater racing in 2021 as he finished 20th in Formula Regional European Championship, having enjoyed an impressive rookie season in 2020 with F4 UAE title and Vice-Champion in Italian F4.

Pizzi didn’t participate in the 2021 F3 Post-Season Test but has previously tested F3 machinery in 2020 with MP Motorsport.

“I am obviously very excited to be joining Charouz Racing System,” commented Pizzi who praised Charouz for the work already undertaken in recent days as he added: “I really enjoyed the work we have already done together in the last few days at the factory.”

Pizzi also spoke highly of Charouz’s track record with young drivers like Lirim Zendeli and Logan Sargeant for example, as he remarked: “This is a great opportunity for me because the team has shown that it can be the right place for a young driver.

“I intend to make the most of this chance while doing the best possible job for the team.”

Charouz Team Owner, Antonin Charouz meanwhile commented that he is “very pleased” to secure Pizzi as their second driver to partner, Laszlo Toth who joined earlier this week from Campos.

Explaining his decision to sign Pizzi, Charouz said: “Francesco has already demonstrated with his past results that he has excellent potential, we’re sure that he will be able right away to do his best working with all the engineers and mechanics in order to prepare for the first races and show what he can do in such a competitive championship.”

Charouz also insisted that the team is ready for this season as he added: “The beginning of the season is approaching very quickly and the whole team is already working very hard to start off on the right foot and build a season that lives up to our expectations.”

Charouz’s final driver within a three-driver line-up for the 2022 F3 season will be announced in due course.
