Steve Clarke Names Scotland Euro 2020 Squad

Steve Clarke has named his Scotland squad for Euro 2020 as the Tartan Army returns to the international stage for the first time since 1998.

Billy Gilmour, David Turnbull and Nathan Patterson have all been handed their maiden call-ups to the senior squad after impressing this season for Chelsea, Celtic and Rangers respectively.

Gilmour has been handed his maiden call-up to the senior squad after impressing for Chelsea in recent months under Thomas Tuchel, having broken through into the first team under Frank Lampard last season.

Turnbull is another midfielder to be awarded his first call-up for the senior team after impressing for Celtic this season, despite the Hoops enduring a wretched season in which Neil Lennon quit as manager.

Gilmour and Turnbull will replace Kenny McLean and Ryan Jack who are both ruled out of this summer’s Euros with respective knee and calf injuries, which will keep both players out until pre-season for Norwich and Rangers respectively.

Patterson has also been called up to the senior team for the first-ever time replacing Sheffield Wednesday’s Liam Palmer, who is snubbed for the youngster who has enjoyed a breakthrough season for the Scottish champions.

Aberdeen’s Andrew Considine is another absentee from the squad as Leeds’ Liam Cooper returns in defence.

Sheffield United’s Oli McBurnie is ruled out of the squad after suffering a fractured metatarsal in his foot against Arsenal in early April.

Clarke has therefore called up Celtic’s James Forrest to replace McBurnie in an otherwise unchanged forward selection, as Che Adams, Kevin Nisbet, Lyndon Dykes and Ryan Fraser retain their places despite the latter pair suffering injuries in recent weeks.

The only selection to remain unchanged from March’s World Cup Qualifiers is in the goalkeeping position, with Craig Gordon, David Marshall and Jon McLaughlin all retained.

Scotland will kick off their Euro 2020 campaign in Group D at home to Czech Republic on Monday 14 June (2pm BST), before visiting Auld Enemy – England at Wembley on Friday 18 June in a 8pm BST kick-off.

Steve Clarke’s Tartan Army will then finish off their group stage round at home to Croatia on Tuesday 22 June in a 8pm BST kick-off at Hampden Park.

Here is Scotland’s 26-man squad in full.

Goalkeeper – Craig Gordon (Hearts), David Marshall (Derby County), Jon McLaughlin (Rangers)
