Manchester United slipped 12 points behind their local rivals after finding themselves held to a goalless draw at fifth-placed Chelsea.
Youri Tielemans’ sixth minute opener wasn’t enough for Leicester who missed a chance to go second as they fell to a 3-1 home defeat against Arsenal, whilst also losing Harvey Barnes to a serious knee injury for the next six weeks.
Down in the relegation zone, Sheffield United fell to a home defeat against Liverpool as second-half goals from Curtis Jones and Roberto Firmino gifted Jurgen Klopp’s Reds victory to end their four match losing streak.
West Brom grabbed their first home win in eight matches through Kyle Bartley’s header as they remain second-bottom, after Brighton missed two penalties and saw a free-kick goal ruled out due to confusion over the referee’s whistle blowing.
Fulham stayed three points off the safety after finding themselves held to a goalless draw at Crystal Palace.
Elsewhere, Everton stayed seventh after Richarlison fired in a ninth minute winner to defeat Southampton.
Gareth Bale netted a brace as Tottenham Hotspur ran riot in a dominant win over Burnley with Harry Kane and Lucas Moura scoring in-between Bale’s two goals.
Anwar El Ghazi fired in a fifth minute winner for Aston Villa as Dean Smith’s Villains edged past Leeds United in a scrappy encounter at Elland Road.
Finally, Jamaal Lascelles and Ruben Neves both scored headed second-half goals as Newcastle and Wolves contested a fifth straight 1-1 draw in Saturday Night Football at St James’ Park.
Midweek
Two late goals from Gabriel Jesus either side of Riyad Mahrez’s strike clinched a 4-1 win for Man City at home to Wolves, after Leander Dendoncker’s own goal had put City ahead before Connor Coady equalised from a 61st minute free-kick.
Man Utd were held to a goalless away draw for the second consecutive match as Crystal Palace dug deep for a point, leaving the Red Devils 14 points adrift of Pep Guardiola’s Citizens in the title race.
Leicester bounced back from their defeat at the weekend as Kelechi Iheanacho rescued them a point at Burnley, having fallen behind to Matej Vydra’s fourth minute opener from Hamza Choudhury’s loose pass.
Chelsea returned to fourth position with a huge away victory at Anfield as Mason Mount struck a 42nd minute winner from N’Golo Kante’s long ball, making it five defeats in six league matches for Liverpool whose to four hopes now hang in the balance.
Down in the relegation zone, West Brom remain second bottom after Richarlison headed in the only goal at The Hawthorns to send Everton up to fifth.
Sheffield United scrapped to a narrow win over Aston Villa at Bramall Lane as David McGoldrick smashed in a 30th minute winner, despite finishing with ten men as Phil Jagielka saw red for a foul on Anwar El Ghazi.
Finally, Tosin Adarabioyo flicked Dele Alli’s shot into his own net to gift Tottenham a scrappy win which meant that Fulham missed an opportunity to move out of the bottom three and drop Newcastle into 18th position instead.
