2020-21 Sky Bet Championship: Week 35 – Friday

Huddersfield Town welcome Cardiff City to the John Smith Stadium in Friday Night Football from the Sky Bet Championship.

Victory would lift Huddersfield above Derby into 18th whereas Cardiff can go sixth with a win ahead of Saturday’s action.

Alex Pritchard could return for Huddersfield after not being risked in either of their last two matches due to a quad injury.

Danny Grant could make his Terriers debut after recovering from a calf injury picked up in early January.

Rolando Aarons, Josh Koroma (both hamstring), Carel Eiting, Tommy Elphick, Christopher Schindler (all knee), Jonathan Hogg, Danny Ward (both calf) and Harry Toffolo (back) remain absent.

Cardiff will be without Joe Bennett after the defender suffered a knee injury in Tuesday’s win over Derby County.

Sol Bamba (illness), Jordi Osei-Tutu (hamstring), Lee Tomlin (groin) and Isaac Vassell (quad) all remain sidelined.

Stat Attack

  • Huddersfield are winless in their last 14 meetings against Cardiff in all competitions (D4, L10).
  • Cardiff are unbeaten in their last six trips to Huddersfield (W3, D3), in which all three draws finished goalless whilst the Bluebirds scored three goals in each of their three recent away wins here.
  • Frazier Campbell has scored in three of his last six home appearances for Huddersfield.

Prediction

With a run of one win in their last 12 league games, Huddersfield are certainly in for a huge test here despite delivering a solid display in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw against Birmingham City, which is the fifth occasion in six home games since 2021 chimed that the Terriers managed to find the net at least once.

Cardiff meanwhile come here high on confidence after a dominant home win against Derby in midweek, so will certainly be up for this clash given the amount of goal threats that they possess and I am expecting them to score here.

Add in the Bluebirds’ strong record in this fixture then I genuinely can see just one result coming unless Huddersfield can improve defensively, because they are in decent goal-scoring form at home yet their defending has been their downfall in form.

Prediction: Huddersfield Town 1-3 Cardiff City

Result: Huddersfield Town 0-0 Cardiff City
