Jack Doohan has secured the last Trident seat as he switches from HWA Racelab for the 2021 Formula Three season.
Doohan’s move comes after a difficult 2020 campaign in which he registered zero points for HWA en route to 26th overall in the championship standings, with a best finish of 11th at the final race in Mugello back in September.
Having conducted post-season testing for the team last autumn, Dohan is confident of further improvement, saying: “Post season testing went very well and I already feel a great atmosphere between the team and myself.”
Trident Team Principal, Giacomo Ricci is ‘extremely pleased’ to secure Doohan’s services for the upcoming season, saying: “In postseason testing in Barcelona and Jerez in October 2020, he definitely impressed the team for how quickly he adapted to the car and how he earned extremely competitive results.”
Ricci also spoke how proud Trident are as a team to be working alongside the son of five-time MotoGP World Champion – Mick Doohan who won his five titles in consecutive seasons from 1994-98, before suffering career-ending leg injuries in a wet Qualifying session for 1999 Spanish GP at Jerez.
On Jack’s reaction when discussing motorsport in conversations, Ricci said that the 18 year-old’s eyes ‘literally glow.’
Speaking on how Jack has settled into the team, Ricci said: “He quickly created excellent chemistry with the technical staff and all the team members, showing great passion and determination in achieving his goals.”
Doohan will inherit the number four car and remain part of Red Bull’s junior system, whilst his new teammates – Clement Novalak and David Schumacher will drive the numbered five and six cars respectively.
Trident are now the sixth team to finalise their driver line-ups behind Prema, ART, Hitech GP, HWA Racelab and MP Motorsport for the upcoming new F3 season, which is due to commence on weekend of 7-9 May in Barcelona, Spain with a new three race weekend format.
