Jack Doohan was crowned 2021 F3 Vice-Champion with victory in 2021 Russian Race Two as Trident snatched the constructor’s championship title.
Doohan led from pole position but had to survive a race-long challenge from Trident teammate, Clement Novalak despite briefly losing the lead on Lap 17 amidst controversial team orders which raged throughout the second half of the race.
Novalak eventually finished third after getting overtook by Frederik Vesti on Lap 18 as the Danish driver finished second, although first and third was enough for Trident to snatch the constructor’s title by six points from PREMA who could only claim seven points from this race.
Logan Sargeant finished fourth ahead of Jak Crawford, Johnathan Hoggard, Arthur Leclerc, Victor Martins, Ayumu Iwasa and Olli Caldwell who rounded out the top ten.
In the driver standings, Doohan finished the season as runner-up to Dennis Hauger by 26 points with Novalak finishing in third-place ahead of Vesti and Martins who rounded out the top five finishers in the championship.
Doohan made a quick start to hold the lead from Novalak and Hoggard as Vesti lost two positions to Juan Manuel Correa and Lorenzo Colombo, but was able to quickly recover fifth at Turn Six as Colombo slid down to 11th after running wide.
Vesti soon afterwards passed Correa for fourth on the second lap before getting Hoggard for third just three laps later.
Further back behind the pair, Sargeant made a strong start from 11th on the grid as he put himself fifth by lap three after passing Correa.
Hauger meanwhile found himself in a massive scrap with Correa, Crawford, Martins plus Oliver Rasmussen for the lower points placings, as a wide moment on Lap Four dropped him to eighth before he was spun round on Lap Seven by Rasmussen but he recovered to finish 24th at the checkered flag.
Up front, Novalak tried to pass Doohan for the lead on Lap Nine only to find himself squeezed wide at Turn Two and took the lead through the bollards, which forced him to hand the lead back to Doohan and triggered frantic team orders from Trident throughout the second half of the race.
Doohan however ignored team orders as he and Novalak fought hard over the race lead culminating in the Frenchman making the overtake on Lap 17, only to be outdragged through Turn Three by Doohan who quickly regained the lead and proceeded to take victory.
Novalak meanwhile lost second a lap later to Vesti but with Leclerc and Caldwell finishing seventh and tenth for PREMA with Hauger out of the points, 40 points between Doohan and Novalak proved enough to gift Trident their first constructor title at the third level of single-seater motorsport.
Elsewhere, Hoggard lost positions to Sargeant and Crawford in the closing laps as he eventually finished sixth to propel himself up to 20th in the standings.
