2020-21 Sky Bet Championship: Week 27 Roundup

Norwich City continue to sit atop of the Sky Bet Championship following a packed matchweek containing several rearranged fixtures in midweek.

Emiliano Buendia found himself sent off for a second bookable offence in the 67th minute as Norwich failed to register a shot on target in a goalless draw against Middlesbrough at Carrow Road.

Daniel Farke’s Canaries then found themselves held to a second goalless draw in three days as Millwall dug deep for a point at The Den.

Brentford enjoyed a ruthless 7-2 home win over rock-bottom Wycombe on Saturday before fighting back to win 3-2 against Bristol City on Wednesday evening, moving Thomas Frank’s Bees up to second.

Gareth Ainsworth’s Chairboys then secured a goalless draw on Tuesday at home to Birmingham City.

Swansea consequently slipped to third despite Conor Hourihane providing a goal and assist in a 3-1 win at Rotherham on Saturday, as the Millers then thrashed Derby 3-0 on Wednesday to move themselves to within two points of safety.

Wayne Rooney’s Rams meanwhile got a narrow win over Bristol City on Saturday as Colin Kazim-Richards volleyed in from Lee Buchanan’s fourth minute cross.

Reading rose to fourth after defeating sixth-placed Bournemouth 3-1 on Friday evening, with the Cherries then suffering a 2-1 loss on Tuesday night as Sheffield Wednesday won 2-1 but stay second bottom.

Neil Thompson’s Owls meanwhile edged out Preston at Hillsborough on Saturday as Liam Palmer fired in from a knocked down corner just before half-time.

Watford occupy fifth after late goals from Charlie Austin and Albert Adomah saw QPR come from behind to overturn Troy Deeney’s penalty opener in Monday Night Football at Vicarage Road.

Elsewhere, Nottingham Forest took four points from their two games in this match week to move three points clear of the drop, having held Barnsley on Saturday in a goalless home draw before prevailing 2-1 at Coventry in midweek.

Coventry also drew at the weekend as Gustavo Hamer cancelled out Jeremie Bela’s penalty in a 1-1 draw against their landlords, Birmingham City at St Andrews’ Stadium.

Adam Armstrong headed in Blackburn’s third win in four to go eighth as Rovers edged out Luton in a scrappy encounter at Ewood Park.

Stoke made it three draws in their last four after Steve Fletcher’s penalty cancelled out Pipa’s fifth minute opener in a 1-1 draw at Huddersfield.

Finally, Kieffer Moore rescued Cardiff a point at home to Millwall after Aden Flint’s own goal had given the Lions a ninth minute lead.
