Formula One veteran, Romain Grosjean has completed a switch to IndyCar as he signs for Dale Coyle Racing.
Grosjean has signed to participate in the 12 road and street course races taking place this season from Barber to Long Beach amongst other races.
It is yet to be decided whether Grosjean will drive for the team on the three oval circuits of Texas, Indianapolis and Illinois, due to his injuries .
Speaking on how ‘very excited’ he is to be racing in America, Grosjean said: “I had different options in front of me for this coming season and choosing to go IndyCar Racing was definitively my favorite one.”
Grosjean also spoke of IndyCar having a more competitive field than he had experienced in his career so far, saying: “IndyCar has a much more level playing field than what I have been used to in my career so far.”
On his aims for this season, Grosjean said: “It will be exciting to challenge for podiums and wins again.. My left hand is still healing, but we are just about ready to get back into the race car and to start this next chapter of my career.”
Dale Coyne Team Owner, Dale Coyne confirmed that discussions had been on-going with Grosjean before he suffered a fiery crash in Bahrain in what proved to be his last F1 race, after being informed in late October that he was to be released from Haas at end of 2020.
Coyne has spoken of Grosjean showing his interest for several months before signing, saying: “He has shown interest in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES for the past several months and we’re very happy that he has chosen to pursue his career with us and excited to welcome a driver with his pedigree to America…”
Grosjean is racing for Dale Coyne’s co-entrant of Rick Ware Racing but will partner Ed Jones who is racing under Vasser Sullivan co-entry this season with IndyCar set to begin their campaign across weekend of 16-18 April in Alabama at Barber Motorsports Park.
