Tottenham Hotspur welcome Chelsea to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in Thursday Night Football from the Premier League.
Tottenham can reclaim sixth with a win whereas Chelsea can leapfrog their hosts if they take victory.
Team News
Tanguy Ndombele is a doubt for Tottenham after being substituted in Sunday’s defeat at Brighton with a knock.
Sergio Reguilon (muscle), Giovani Lo Celso (thigh), Dele Alli (unspecified) and Harry Kane (ankle) are sidelined.
Chelsea could be without Kai Havertz and Kurt Zouma due to knocks.
Stat Attack
- Tottenham have lost three of their last five league meetings against Chelsea (W1, D1, L3).
- Chelsea have won two of their last five league trips to Spurs (W2, D1, L2).
- Spurs have scored in five of their last six home games against Chelsea in all competitions.
- Timo Werner is yet to score on his left foot in the Premier League for Chelsea.
- Jose Mourinho has taken six points from three Premier League matches as manager of opposition teams against Chelsea (W2, L1).
Prediction
Tottenham have to really turn up from the get-go here because if they deliver another slow start and Chelsea can stretch them beyond their wide capabilities like Brighton did on Sunday evening, this simply could be a rough evening in North London with Kane still sidelined.
Chelsea meanwhile worked hard as a team for their win over Burnley but did look sluggish on the attacking front in terms of sharpness, which was a slight worry but given Spurs’ issues plus more time under Tuchel’s training, this is a huge opportunity here for a big win.
I am therefore expecting to see Chelsea come out fighting but unless they are sharp up front, this feels like it could be another narrow win but I think they will have enough for a comfortable result because Spurs just don’t look likely in my opinion to get a result.
Prediction: Tottenham 0-2 Chelsea
