Edinson Cavani Signs for Manchester United on Free Transfer

Uruguayan striker, Edinson Cavani has signed for Manchester United on a free transfer.

Cavani has been without leaving PSG at the end of his contract last month before opting to sign for Man Utd, yet will face his former team in the Champions League Group Stage after PSG and the Red Devils were drawn together in Group H.

Speaking on his decision to sign for Man Utd, Cavani said; “Manchester United is one of the greatest clubs in the world, so it is a real honour to be here. I’ve worked during the time off and I feel eager to compete and represent this incredible club.”

Cavani has also spoken of his excitement to ‘experience the Old Trafford atmosphere’ when fans are allowed to enter stadiums again following a ban by UK Government due to the Coronavirus pandemic, saying; “I cannot wait to experience the Old Trafford atmosphere when it is safe for the fans to return.”

The Uruguayan however in the mean time is keen to continue writing “my little story inside the book of football…” after speaking to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Gunnar Solskjaer has also commented on Cavani’s arrival given his excellent goal-scoring record, saying; “Edinson is an experienced ultimate professional who always gives everything for his team. His goalscoring record for club and country is fantastic and we are delighted to sign a player of his calibre.”

Praising the ex PSG striker’s qualities, Gunnar Solskjaer spoke of his mentality and goals after netting 138 goals in 200 appearances for the French club, as the Utd legend turned manager said; “He’ll bring energy, power, leadership and a great mentality to the squad but, most importantly, he’ll bring goals.”

Cavani’s first appearance for Man Utd could come at Newcastle United when the Premier League resumes after the international break, just days before Utd visit PSG in their opening Champions League clash on 20 October 2020 with return leg on 2 December at Old Trafford.

Cavani’s arrival comes just hours after United signed Alex Telles from Porto on a four-year contract, with the Brazilian describing the move as a “huge honour.”

Agreement meanwhile has been reached with Atalanta for the transfer of Amad Diallo in January, whilst Chris Smalling has departed the club for AS Roma on a permanent deal.
