Manchester United have completed the signing of Amad Diallo from Atalanta until June 2025.
Man Utd reached agreement for Diallo’s transfer with Atalanta on Deadline Day of the summer transfer window in October 2020, with a medical, work-permit and personal terms of a four-and-a-half-year contract now finalised.
Diallo however has to wait for a visa to be approved before he can make the formal move to link up with Utd, although he has made two substitute appearances for Atalanta this season in all competitions whilst waiting for the transfer to be greenlit.
Utd manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer described Diallo as a “one of the most exciting young prospects” in football, and believes that the club has ensured “everything is in place to enable Amad to reach his potential here.”
Gunnar Solskjaer also spoke of Diallo’s potential despite patience being necessary, saying; “It will take time for him to adapt but his speed, vision and fantastic dribbling ability will stand him in good stead to make the transition.
“He is a player with all the raw attributes that are needed to be an important player for Manchester United in the years to come.”
Having had to wait since summer to make his switch, Diallo described his move to the Red Devils as “a dream come true” whilst admitting that he is “hugely ambitious” which comes at a time when Utd sit second in the Premier League on goal difference with a game in hand.
Speaking on joining players like Harry Maguire, Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford, Diallo said; “This is a really exciting squad with so many great players, I can promise that I will work hard every day to learn from them and give everything to develop my game.”
Man Utd coaches have kept contact with Diallo since Atalanta reached agreement with the club with the 18 year-old happy to have received “a lot of great advice.”
Diallo’s shirt number will be announced within the coming days.
