2023-24 Premier League: Week 35 – Everton vs Brentford

Everton host Brentford at Goodison Park as both teams battle for Premier League safety.

Victory would lift Everton above Brentford into 15th position by a single point and secure safety if Luton lose elsewhere, whilst Thomas Frank’s Bees can stay 15th and move five points clear of Sean Dyche’s Toffees.

Vitaliy Mykolenko is a doubt for Everton after he suffered an ankle injury during the Merseyside derby win over Liverpool in midweek.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (illness) could be rested despite having featured in the Toffees’ midweek win.

Seamus Coleman (groin), Beto (concussion), Nathan Patterson (hamstring), Lewis Dobbin (ankle) and Dele Alli (hip) remain absent.

Brentford could welcome Ivan Toney back from a hip injury but Neal Maupay is ineligible to face his parent club.

Aaron Hickey (hamstring), Josh Dasilva, Rico Henry (both knee) and Ben Mee (ankle) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Everton host Brentford at Goodison Park on Saturday 27 April at 5:30pm BST, live on Sky Sports in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Everton have claimed seven points from five Premier League meetings against Brentford (W2, D1, L2).
  • Brentford have won one of two previous Premier League visits to Everton (W1, L1).
  • Both teams have scored in three of their five Premier League meetings, with Everton having scored seven goals to Brentford’s six goals.
  • Everton have kept clean sheets in their last three home matches (W3), during which they scored five goals.
  • Yoane Wissa has scored four goals in three of Brentford’s last four away games.

Prediction

Should Luton lose in the mid-afternoon kick-offs, this game takes on huge signifance because Everton can secure their safety with a win whilst Brentford would be safe come kick-off in that scenario.

Everton though just have to keep building momentum after a fantastic performance to beat Liverpool because they had an impressive energy and intensity from the start, which translated into two clinical goals and a great goalkeeping effort from Jordan Pickford.

Brentford meanwhile were just fantastic in their win at Luton last weekend with a proper attacking intensity and press which wore the Hatters’ defence down, whilst their pace when on the counter-attack certainly will be something to consider here.

On that note, this game feels like it could be a cracker between two teams finding confidence again so a draw might well be a fair outcome, otherwise Brentford might just edge it in my view if they play like they’ve done lately.

Prediction: Everton 1-1 Brentford

Result: Everton 1-0 Brentford
