2023-24 UEFA Champions League Semi-Finals: Second Leg – Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich

Real Madrid host Bayern Munich at Santiago Bernabeu in the second leg of their 2023-24 UEFA Champion League semi-final.

With the tie locked at 2-2 on aggregate after the first leg in Munich, victory would see either Real Madrid or Bayern reach the final.

Another draw would see the tie go to extra time and potentially penalties.

Aurelién Tchouameni is a doubt for Real Madrid after he was an unused substitute in their 3-0 La Liga win over Cadiz, having suffered a knock in training prior to that game.

Daniel Carvajal is available after he was suspended for the first leg but David Alaba (ACL) remains absent.

Bayern Munich will be without defender, Raphael Guerreiro after he suffered an ankle injury in their 3-1 Bundesliga loss at VfB Stuttgart.

Eric Dier (head) and Matthijs De Ligt (knee) are doubtful for selection.

Sacha Boey (hamstring), Bouna Sarr (ACL), Kingsley Coman (adductor) and Tarek Buchmann (muscle) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Real Madrid host Bayern at Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday 8 May at 8pm BST, live on TNT Sports 1 in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Real Madrid are unbeaten in eight of their last nine Champions League meetings against Bayern Munich (W6, D2, L1).
  • Bayern Munich are winless in their last seven visits to Real Madrid (D1, L6), having last won 1-0 here in May 2001 en-route to that season’s title.
  • Real and Bayern have both scored in each of their last five Champions League meetings.
  • Real have kept two clean sheets at home in this season’s Champions League (W3, D2).
  • Bayern have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last six Champions League away matches (W3, D1, L2).

Prediction

With the tie firmly poised and holding home advantage, Real know that they have their fate in their own hands here because they are capable of devastating clinical moments, which was evident in the first leg where they didn’t really have total control in a tightly-fought scrap.

Bayern meanwhile just need to stay on top like they were in the first leg but given their poor away form to Real, I do feel that they realistically need to score first and defend resolutely if want any chance of reaching the final.

This clash though will have to open up as both teams chase a winner the longer it stays level which could well suit Real such is their fierce end product, but Bayern should give them another difficult test.

Prediction: Real Madrid 2-1 Bayern Munich

Result: Real Madrid 2-1 Bayern Munich (Real Madrid win 4-3 on aggregate)
