ART Grand Prix have signed Tuukka Taponen for the 2027 FIA Formula 2 season.
Taponen’s graduation comes after he finished third in the 2026 F3 season with one win and two further podium finishes in three of the final four races for MP Motorsport.
ART GP consequently have opted to re-sign the 19-year-old Finnish driver as part of their F2 line-up, after he previously drove for the team in the 2025 F3 season, having initially made his debut in the category with as a stand-in in Belgium in 2024.
“I believe we have a good chance of fighting for the front positions right away,” said Taponen on his belief that he can fight for wins with ART GP next season as F2 introduces a new generation car.
“ART is a team I know well, and I know how they work. F2 will introduce a new car version next season, along with regulation changes, which will level the playing field for all teams.
“It’s also great to return to a team that already knows me and wanted me back. I’m confident I’ll get the support I need from the team to take this next step and pursue my goal of reaching Formula 1.”
ART GP Team Principal, Sebastien Philippe added that he is pleased to welcome Taponen back to the team as part of their F2 line-up.
“I’m very happy to have Tuukka back in the team! We are already a step ahead, having built a solid foundation and a strong relationship together in the past. This allows us to focus fully, from the outset, on his performance and the development of the car”.
