Nottingham Forest have signed defender, Ousmane Diomande from Sporting Lisbon for an undisclosed transfer fee.
Diomande’s move to the City Ground comes after lengthy negotiations across the summer between Forest and Sporting over an undisclosed fee, with the 22-year-old having signed a four-year contract until June 2030.
Speaking to Forest’s website about his move, Diomande is motivated by the history of the club and is hopeful that he can help the team have a successful period.
“I am very happy to be here. It is a historic club, and it motivates me to join such a club. I believe we can achieve very good things this season and I am looking forward to meeting the players and head coach.
“I will give my best and all I can to help the team. I cannot wait to meet the supporters at the City Ground and together we can have a good season.”
Forest’s Chief Football Officer, George Syrianos added: “We have been very clear on the profile of player we want to add to the squad, so we are excited to welcome Ousmane to the club.
“He has fantastic experience for a defender of his age. Playing a crucial role in title winning teams and going into the latter stages of the Champions League puts him in a great position to integrate well here at Forest.
“Ousmane is a powerful, commanding defender, and arrives here with a winning mentality. He shares the same ambition for success we have, and we are excited to see the impact he can have in a Forest shirt.”
Diomande began his career at OS Abobo before he joined Denmark’s Midtjylland where he graduated through their academy but failed to make a single senior appearance, as he instead joined Portugal’s Mafra on loan where he scored one goal in 17 appearances in the first half of the 2022-23 season.
His performances led Sporting to sign him in January 2023 and he has gone on to score seven goals in 132 appearances as he helped them win two Primera Liga titles plus 2024-25 Taca de Portugal success.
At international level, Diomande has scored one goal in 16 senior caps for Ivory Coast and helped them win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, plus was recently involved in their FIFA World Cup squad this summer as the African side reached the Round of 32 stage where they lost to Norway.
