Millwall have signed defender, Danny Batth on a free transfer.
Batth’s move to The Den on an one-year contract until 30 June 2027 comes just a month after he left Derby County following failure to agree terms on a new contract to stay at Pride Park.
Batth has also played for Millwall in their final two pre-season friendlies as a trialist, in which he featured in a 1-1 draw at Bromley then was an unused substitute in their 1-0 victory at home to Royal Antwerp yesterday (1 August).
“We’re pleased to bring Danny in,” explained Millwall’s Director of Football, Steve Gallen as he spoke of Batth’s experience in the EFL and leadership skills.
“He’s a hugely experienced centre-back who’s earned respect throughout the game over a long career, and that experience is exactly what we’re looking to add to this group.
“Danny’s leadership and attitude will count for a lot, both on the pitch and in the dressing room.”
Gallen also noted that Batth’s arrival has allowed fellow defender, Kamarl Grant to rejoin Bromley on a season-long loan after he spent last season initially at the club, before he endured a tricky loan stint at Blackpool earlier this year.
“He adds strong competition in that area of the pitch, and it’s also allowed Kamarl to go out on loan, which is a good move for him – he’ll get valuable league experience and continue his development.”
Batth began his career at Wolves where he graduated through their academy and helped them to League One and Championship titles, during which he scored 15 goals in 212 appearances.
Whilst at Molineux, he enjoyed loan spells at Colchester, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday across which he registered four goals in 78 combined appearances, during which he won promotion with the Owls in 2011-12 season into the Championship.
2018-19 season saw Batth initially go on loan to Middlesbrough in which he made 13 appearances before his spell was cut short in order to complete a transfer to Stoke City in January 2019, where he scored six goals in 107 appearances across three years.
He then returned to the North East to join Sunderland where he produced one goal in 55 appearances, and helped the Black Cats achieve promotion to the Championship via League One Play-Offs at the end of 2021-22 season.
Stints at Norwich, Blackburn and Derby followed in the last three seasons across which he delivered three goals in 71 combined appearances.
