Laurens van Hoepen will switch from Trident to MP Motorsport for the 2027 FIA Formula Two season.
Van Hoepen graduated into F2 for the final three rounds of the 2025 season ahead of a full rookie season in 2026, which has proven successful with five podiums as he now sits tenth in the drivers’ standings with two rounds left.
The 21-year-old Dutchman’s performances consequently persuaded Dutch team, MP Motorsport to sign him, which will mark their first time working together despite Van Hoepen having grown up in Wassenaar just 45 minutes away from MP Motorsport’s base in Westmaas.
“It’s good to finally join forces with a team that has been on my doorstep since my karting days,” commented Van Hoepen who is now excited to drive for a Dutch team and build on his F2 success so far.
“I have witnessed their incredible success first-hand, especially in my last five seasons in FRECA and FIA F3, and with the experience of a season of Formula 2 under my belt, I’m confident that I can add more prizes to their impressive trophy cabinet.
“MP is a team of many nationalities now, but it still feels like a natural move to join the home team and race in the orange home colours.”
“I’m incredibly pleased that Laurens has become a member of our MP family,” explained MP Motorsport Team Principal, Sander Dorsman on the youngster’s move and believes that the pair can create Dutch success next season.
“A Dutch driver with a Dutch team is always going to be special, and with Laurens’ obvious talent and the debut season that he’s had, it was a matter of time before we put two and two together. With Laurens on board as the first of our F2 drivers, we are aiming to continue our frontrunning F2 form in 2027.”
