2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup: Play-Offs – England vs Greece

England host Greece in the second leg of their Qualifying Play-Offs first-round tie in a bid to reach the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

With a 3-1 aggregate lead from the first leg, England will advance to the final qualifying play-off round with a win or draw although a 1-0 loss would too be enough for them to qualify.

Greece meanwhile must win by three or more goals to stand any chance of overturning their deficit as the winner await either Slovakia or Ukraine in the next round.

Team News

England have no fresh injury concerns to report after their first-leg victory, with manager – Sarina Wiegman set to rotate her squad which could see Lexi Potter make her senior international debut.

Greece too have no fresh injury concerns to report.

When is Kick-Off?

England host Greece at the King Power Stadium, Leicester, on Tuesday 13 October at 7:30pm BST, live on ITV4 and ITVX in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • England won 3-1 in their only previous meeting against Greece which came in the first leg of this play-off tie.
  • Greece Women are making their first competitive visit to England in all competitions.
  • England have kept clean sheets in their last six home matches (W6).
  • Greece have won their last two away matches by 3-2 results.

Prediction

With the tie now in their own hands on home soil, England can afford to relax a bit but they must be wary of Greece’s counter-attacking threat and low tight defensive block, but I do expect Wiegman to still go fairly strong in her selection as their aggregate lead can easily turn if not careful.

Greece meanwhile just need to throw everything that they have at this tie and try to be more clinical on their counter-attacks if want an unlikely comeback, but fitness was a concern in the second half of the first leg despite their consolatory goal.

I however do think that England will be far too strong and should clinically get the job done.

Prediction: England 2-0 Greece
