Bromley signing, Jacob Mendy is ready to “contribute” towards the club’s ambitions in League One this season.

Mendy joined Bromley on a free transfer following his departure from Wrexham on 30 June upon expiration of his contract, and the 29 year-old has vowed to contribute to the Ravens’ push for a successful debut League One campaign as he explained in his first interview with the club’s YouTube Channel.

“It’s great to be here. Um I’m happy to get this over the line and ready to contribute with my performances.”

Bromley and manager, Andy Woodman had previously expressed interest in signing Mendy and the winger – who can also play at left-back – is glad to make the move after he previously played the Ravens when at Wealdstone and Boreham Wood in the National League.

“Finally, um you know, I played against Bromley a few times. I’ve always thought it was a great club. I spoke with the manager and he really showed interest and it was a no brainer for me.”

Despite being born in Gambia, Mendy began his career in Spain with spells at Parla, Atletico Casarrubuelos, Atletico Madrid C and Puerta Bonita and felt that the experience will benefit him at Bromley on top of his previous club experience within England.

“Playing in Spain, I think it was great. That’s where I learned most of my football. And I’m coming here now combining it with the what I’ve learned in Spain, I think just made me the player I am today. So I’m very grateful for what I’ve learned in Spain and the time I spent in Spain.”

2017 saw Mendy make the move to England where he played for Redhill, Carshalton Athletic, Wealdstone and Boreham Wood before he spent four years at Wrexham, although he was loaned to Peterborough for the second half of last season.

Mendy therefore is content with his footballing progress in this country and proud to now be at Bromley.

“Yes, it was a great time. I really enjoyed every step I took in football here. Um obviously, what I am today is thanks to what I’ve experienced when I first came to England, you know, the hard work I had to put in and you know, the clubs I’ve been in, the clubs I’ve been lucky to meet, very good people, good managers, good players.

“And yeah, so happy to be where I am today.”

Mendy won’t be totally alone at the CopperJax Stadium because he is reuniting with former Wealdstone teammate, Ashley Charles, of who he was full of praise for after they won promotion from National League South to National League in 2019-20 season.

“Played with Ashley Charles at Wealdstone. We achieved promotion at Wealdstone. And you know, we had a good season with him. And I think he’s a great player and a great human being.”

Mendy also teased fans as to what they can expect from him this season on the pitch.

“I think I can bring pace, good one-v-one situations either defensively and or offensively, and a lot of hard work.”
