2025-26 Premier League: Week 37 – Chelsea vs Tottenham

Chelsea meet Tottenham in a blockbuster London derby affecting the European qualification and relegation battles respectively.

Victory would lift Chelsea up to eighth in the table, whilst Tottenham will stay 17th regardless of the result but a win would see the North London club secure safety and relegate West Ham.

Team News

Romeo Lavia is a doubt for Chelsea after he missed their FA Cup Final defeat to Manchester City on Saturday, having suffered a knock in training.

Jesse Derry (concussion), Estevao, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens (both hamstring) and Mykhailo Mudryk (suspension) are still sidelined.

Tottenham will welcome goalkeeper, Guglielmo Vicario back into contention for the first time since March, with the Italian having had hernia surgery during the international break.

Mohammed Kudus (quad), Dominic Solanke (hamstring), Xavi Simons, Wilson Odobert (both ACL), Cristian Romero and Dejan Kulusevski (both knee) are still ruled out.

When is Kick-Off?

Chelsea host Tottenham at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday 19 May at 8:15pm BST, live on Sky Sports Premier League in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Chelsea have won each of their last five league meetings against Tottenham (W5).
  • Tottenham have won just one of their last 35 league visits to Chelsea (W1, D11, L23), having last won a top-flight match at Stamford Bridge by 2-1 result in February 1990
  • Each of Chelsea’s last two victories over Tottenham have been by 1-0 results.
  • Chelsea are winless in their last seven league matches (D1, L6).
  • Spurs have failed to win any of their two away London derbies in 2026 (D1, L1), which both coincidentally came in West London as they drew 0-0 at Brentford and lost 2-1 at Fulham.

Prediction

Despite not actually playing too badly on a fast-paced counter-attack in the FA Cup Final, Chelsea just lacked much quality in their end product but I do expect a response as this is their first chance to impress incoming manager – Xabi Alonso, who is taking charge from July.

Tottenham meanwhile should of beaten Leeds if they had been more clinical but after seeing West Ham lose at Newcastle, they surely have to be motivated to secure survival with a game to spare and there is the added desire to overcome their Stamford Bridge hoodoo.

Neither club however is exactly the strongest defensively and capable of silly errors so you would think that a draw is on the cards – which would suit Spurs given their superior goal difference over West Ham, but I think Chelsea could nick this given that this is a big game to make an impression on Alonso.

Prediction: Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham
