Bromley manager, Andy Woodman feels that “clean sheets are very important” to his team’s promotion bid.
Woodman’s Ravens begin this weekend sat five points clear of second-placed Cambridge after they were held to a goalless draw at home to Oldham in midweek.
The 54-year old manager however feels that clean sheets are an integral part of a successful promotion-winning team aside from winning matches, as he reflected on the clean sheet against Oldham in his pre-match preview for the Ravens’ trip to Grimsby on 7 March.
“I mean, I’ve always said clean sheets get you promotion in any league and in any given time. This football club, we’re at the business end of the season.
“We know we got to start winning games and we got to start you know um getting three points but equally clean sheets are very important as well at this stage and that might prove to be a very important point, so um, yeah we’re still going in the right direction there.”
Woodman also credited Oldham for their performance as he added: “Tough game. Uh very tough game. Good team. Haven’t conceded many goals of late. I think there’s a fourth clean sheet on the spin.
“Um, and I think, you know, we’ve got to expect they’re a big club and a good side. So, um things are not always going to go our way.
“That said, I felt we had a couple of moments we might have had go for us. Um, equally, I think they had some moments as well. So you could look at as a keeping our unbeaten run intact.”
Will Hondermarck’s brace saw Bromley defeat Grimsby 2-0 at home earlier this season but Woodman felt that the Mariners are “a good team”, even though they had the distraction of their FA Cup run around that time which he feels “… take away from the league a little bit…” despite their strong form since that defeat.
“They’ve really sort of been beating teams convincingly. It’s going to be a tough game, it’s going to be yeah another tough game very similar to Oldham if not a bit tougher.
“We know that all 11 games coming up are going to be all tough so uh we just got to make sure we take care of what we do and keep positivity around us.”
