2025-26 Sky Bet Championship: Week 34 – Wednesday

Sheffield United continue their play-off push against league leaders, Coventry City in a huge Sky Bet Championship clash.

Victory would lift Sheffield Utd as high as 11th if can win by three goals or more, whilst Coventry can move five points clear of second-placed Middlesbrough with a win.

Team News

Jairo Riedewald could feature for Sheffield Utd after boss, Chris Wilder opted not to risk him in their 2-1 victory at home to Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday, following his recovery from a hamstring injury.

Kalvin Phillips however is suspended after he was red carded against the Owls.

Tom Davies (hamstring), Jamie Shackleton (foot), Sam McCallum (Achilles) and Joe Rothwell (suspension) remain absent.

Coventry will have Ephron Mason-Clark and Haji Wright available despite the pair having suffered knocks in their 2-0 victory at West Brom last Saturday.

Oliver Dovin (knee) remains absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Sheffield Utd host Coventry at Bramall Lane on Wednesday 25 February at 7:45pm GMT, live on Sky Sports+ in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Sheffield Utd have avoided defeat in four of their last seven meetings against Coventry (W2, D2, L3).
  • Coventry are winless in their last seven league visits to Sheffield Utd (D2, L5).
  • Three of Sheffield Utd’s last four meetings against Coventry have ended in 3-1 results, of which the Blades won two of those three such games.
  • Three of Patrick Bamford’s eight league goals for Sheffield Utd this season have been scored since the turn of 2026.
  • Coventry have won just one of their last eight away games in the Championship (W1, D3, L4).

Prediction

Still in with a shot at the last play-off shot, Sheffield Utd simply need to keep up their form and hope that others slip up realistically but they can take extra confidence from their clinical home win over Sheffield Wednesday, yet this is going to be a tough test of their defensive play.

Coventry meanwhile are definitely back to their best after a clinical victory at West Brom where they took their chances and defended well in a pretty even contest, but Bramall Lane is bit a hoodoo for them at the minute so they ideally need another aggressive start and to score first.

Wilder’s Blades though have proven tricky to beat at home since the start of 2026 aside from their loss to Middlesbrough, so I expect this to be a tough test with a point apiece.

Prediction: Sheffield Utd 1-1 Coventry

Result: Sheffield Utd 1-2 Coventry
