Brazilian forward, Igor Thiago has signed a new five-and-a-half year contract at Brentford until June 2031, with option for a further year.
Thiago arrived at Brentford from Club Brugge in July 2024 once that summer’s transfer window opened but endured an injury-hit maiden season, in which he was limited to just eight appearances across all competitions.
He nevertheless bounced back this season following the departures of Bryan Mbeumo, Yoane Wissa, and manager, Thomas Frank in a summer of upheaval, as he delivered 18 goals plus one assist across all competitions as the Bees sit seventh in the Premier League.
This campaign also saw Brentford reach the Quarter-Finals of the Carabao Cup, and are currently set to visit Macclesfield in their FA Cup fourth-round tie on Monday 16 February (7:30pm).
“It’s brilliant that Thiago has committed his long-term future to the club,” explained Frank’s successor, Keith Andrews on the decision to tie the 24-year old’s future down amidst potential transfer interest anticipated in the summer as he praised the Brazilian for his effort to connect with all aspects of the club.
“The connection that he has with his team-mates, the staff and the fans, as well as how much the club means to him and he means to us, is pretty evident for everybody to see.
“Again, it’s the person before the player. I love working with him and I’ve loved seeing his evolution as a player. How he plays is such a big part of how we play and what our season has been so far.
“He’s been a massive player for us, so it’s a contract he thoroughly deserves and I’m really happy that the club have been able to get it done.”
