Winger, Simon Adingra has departed Sunderland to join AS Monaco on an initial loan with an option to buy at end of 2025-26 season for £16 million.
Adingra joined Sunderland from Brighton in July but has struggled to settle on Wearside with just one goal in 15 appearances, which led manager – Regis Le Bris to green light the 24-year-old’s loan move to Monaco for a £870k fee.
Should Adingra impress in his loan spell, Monaco will have an option to sign him permanently for £16m once the summer transfer window opens.
Sunderland’s Sporting Director, Kristjaan Speakman explained that the need to give Adingra regular game time in the second half of the season was the primary motivation behind his move.
“When considering the balance and priorities of the squad, we felt this was a mutually agreeable opportunity that ensures Simon plays regularly throughout the second part of the season.
“The stature of this move represents the quality and professional characteristics he possesses, in addition to his motivation to play every week. We wish Simon well and will monitor his progress closely.”
Adingra’s loan departure however only proceeded once Adil Aouchiche completed a permanent transfer to Schalke, following the latter’s recall from his own loan spell at Scotland’s Aberdeen.
