Chesterfield face a tricky test of their promotion credentials against leaders, Bromley, in a massive Sky Bet League Two showdown.
Victory could lift Chesterfield as high as third if Walsall lose at Tranmere in the lunchtime kick-offs, whilst Bromley can move eight points clear of second-placed Swindon for at least a few hours with a win.
Team News
Chesterfield could welcome Dilan Markanday and Armando Dobra back from hamstring injuries subject to fitness checks.
Kyle McFadzean is back in contention after he was suspended for their 2-2 draw at MK Dons a fortnight ago.
Tom Pearce could be in line for his club debut.
Janoi Donacien, Bailey Hobson (both hamstring), Chey Dunkley (neck) and Lewis Gordon (quad) remain absent.
Bromley have no fresh injury concerns to report after their 2-0 victory at Tranmere, with new loan signing – Damola Ajayi in contention for his debut.
It is unlikely that Carl Jenkinson will be available after he stepped up his recovery from a hip injury with a goal-scoring appearance in a midweek friendly defeat at Dorking Wanderers.
When is Kick-Off?
Chesterfield host Bromley at SMH Group Stadium on Saturday 17 January at 12:30pm GMT, live on Sky Sports+ in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Chesterfield are yet to lose to Bromley in League Two (W1, D2).
- Bromley lost 3-0 in their only previous League Two visit to Chesterfield in January 2025, but have won just two of their last seven visits to the Spireites dating back to their time together in National League since 2018-19 season (W2, D2, L3).
- Chesterfield’s two draws against Bromley in the EFL have both ended in 2-2 results, albeit away from home on both occasions.
- Chesterfield have kept just one clean sheet in their last six league games at home (W2, D2, L2).
- Bromley are chasing eight consecutive league victories for the first time since…..
Prediction
Knowing that victory would put the pressure immediately upon their nearest rivals; Salford, MK Dons and Cambridge, Chesterfield can’t afford to be as defensively sloppy as they were in the first half at MK Dons but fair play to them for a late improvement to snatch a draw.
Bromley meanwhile clinically dispatched Tranmere in a performance where they were at their defensive best and now have a five-point gap at the summit to second-placed Swindon, but they can’t afford to relax because this is a tough ground for away opposition.
With that in mind, I can see Bromley grinding out a draw if they play much better than they did last season – having been reduced to ten men in that game, but Chesterfield won’t make this easy given that both teams have similar goalscoring records.
As nice as it would be to see Bromley record an eighth consecutive victory given that Chesterfield are more leaky than themselves, I do think that a draw would suit both teams because they both have tough set of fixtures on the horizon.
Prediction: Chesterfield 1-1 Bromley
Result: Chesterfield 0-0 Bromley
