2025-26 Premier League: Week 17 – Wolves vs Brentford

Wolves chase a first win of the Premier League season against Brentford at Molineux.

Wolves will remain rock bottom of the table regardless of the result, whilst Brentford can go as high as 11th with a win for at least a few hours if Newcastle and Bournemouth lose elsewhere.

Team News

Emmanuel Agbadou is unavailable for Wolves because he is away on international duty for Ivory Coast at Africa Cup of Nations

Yerson Mosquera (suspension) and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde (hamstring) are ruled out.

Marshall Munetsi (calf), Daniel Bentley (ankle), Leon Chiwone (ACL) and Rodrigo Gomes (groin) remain ruled out.

Brentford could welcome Jordan Henderson and Igor Thiago back into contention after the pair sat out the Bees’ Carabao Cup exit at Manchester City in midweek, due to knocks.

Reiss Nelson (knock) could return but Dango Ouattara, Frank Onyeka (both international duty), Fabio Carvalho, Josh Dasilva and Antoni Milambo (all ACL) remain sidelined.

When is Kick-Off?

Wolves host Brentford at Molineux on Saturday 20 December at 3pm GMT, untelevised live in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Wolves have avoided defeat in three of their last five league meetings against Brentford (W2, D1, L2).
  • Brentford have lost just one of their four previous Premier League trips to Wolves (W2, D1, L1).
  • Ex Brentford striker, Bryan Mbeumo scored in both of the Bees’ last two meetings against Wolves (W1, D1).
  • All nine of Wolves’ league goals this season have come from a different goalscorer (including an own-goal from Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen in their 1-1 draw at Molineux in October).
  • Brentford have conceded twice in each of their last four away games in the top flight (L4).

Prediction

Unlucky not to snatch a late point at Arsenal through two own-goals after a resilient defensive display, Wolves can take heart from small positive progress in their attacking play late on with a clinical equaliser, so this is a good chance to try and show more attacking improvement.

Brentford though weren’t really going to beat Man City in their Carabao Cup tie so resting Henderson and Thiago was the wise decision, as they hopefully will be able to bring extra quality if fit enough for this more winnable game if Brentford can get on the front foot and open up the weaknesses in Wolves’ defence.

Wolves however are on the right track improvement wise and although it would be nice to see them go into Christmas with a win, I do feel like this could well be a draw.

Prediction: Wolves 1-1 Brentford

Result: Wolves 0-2 Brentford
