Guide to 2025 Italian Grand Prix as F1 arrives at Monza off the back of a potentially season-defining twist in the Netherlands.

An oil leak saw Lando Norris retire with seven laps left of the Dutch GP which dropped the Brit 34 points behind his McLaren teammate and title rival, Oscar Piastri who enjoyed a winning return from the summer break.

Four Key Pointers

• With Monza being a low downforce circuit, teams will likely run an one-off aerodynamic specification for this track given its high-speed nature.
• Slipstream and tow effects will be crucial in Qualifying for all teams to maximise their chances so expect traffic to be an issue heading towards the Parabolica ahead of flying laps.
• With hot temperatures forecast across the weekend, teams will need to find a way to protect their tyres from overheating if want to maximise their race strategy.
• McLaren will be hot favourites for the win but strategy will be key after their decision to two-stop in 2024 cost them victory against the one-stopping Leclerc.

 

Last Time Out

Norris began the race in 2024 from pole position but a late move from Piastri at Variante Della Roggia allowed Leclerc to split the McLaren drivers in second, before the Monegasque executed an one-stop strategy to cruise to victory from Piastri and Norris who both stopped twice.
