Aston Villa have signed midfielder, Harvey Elliott on a season-long loan with a £35m obligation to buy clause.

Elliott enjoyed a successful summer at the UEFA Under-21s Euro with five goals in six appearances and was named ‘Player of the Tournament’ as England defended their title, in which he opened the scoring against Germany in a 3-2 victory in the final.

He however only made two substitute appearances for Liverpool totalling eight minutes on his return to club action at the start of this season, amidst rumours that he was set for a move to RB Leipzig which never materialised.

Villa consequently agreed a season-long loan for the 22-year-old with an obligatory £35m buy clause in the deal, provided that certain conditions are met across his loan spell.

Elliott began his career at QPR before he moved to Fulham where he made his senior breakthrough at 15 years and 174 days old in September 2018, as he featured in 3-1 third-round victory at Millwall in that season’s EFL Cup.

He subsequently made his Premier League bow as a substitute in May 2019 for the Cottagers in a 1-0 away loss at Wolves, but secured a move to Liverpool that summer and went on to make eight appearances in the 2019-20 season as the Reds claimed their first Premier League title plus the UEFA Super Cup.

That season also saw him feature in Liverpool’s successful FIFA Club World Cup campaign.

Elliott spent the majority of 2020-21 season on loan at Blackburn with seven goals in 42 appearances for the Championship club, after a single appearance for Liverpool in a 7-2 third-round Carabao Cup victory at Lincoln City at the start of that campaign.

He since returned to Liverpool and established himself in the first team in Jurgen Klopp’s final three seasons as manager at Anfield, but managed five goals in just 28 appearances under Arne Slot last season even though it marked his best goals-to-appearance average per season as the Reds claimed a second league title.

During those four seasons, Elliott also helped Liverpool to two Carabao Cup titles plus 2022 FA Community Shield.

The midfielder has now left Liverpool on loan having scored 15 goals and created 17 assists in 149 appearances across all competitions.
