Haas’ Oliver Bearman felt he “definitely got lucky” with sixth-place at 2025 Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort, Netherlands.
Bearman began from the pitlane after Haas opted to change his power unit following issues in his Q1 exit in Qualifying, which left him 19th on the grid.
The 20-year-old Brit however ran an lengthy opening stint on hard tyres and was the only driver to stay out on his original tyres after the first safety car period, and only made his sole stop on lap 54 after a second safety car deployment which saw him rejoin in 11th.
Bearman subsequently passed Gabriel Bortoleto, Fernando Alonso and Pierre Gasly before he benefitted from an oil leak for McLaren’s Lando Norris to finish seventh on the road, which became a F1 career best sixth due to a 15-second time penalty for Mercedes’ Andrea Kimi Antonelli added at the checkered flag.
The result left Bearman surprised as he praised Haas for their work in ensuring that the car was quick enough on a tough weekend pace wise throughout Practice and Qualifying.
“I wasn’t expecting this, and we definitely got lucky today for sure. Sometimes you need to be in the right place at the right time, and good calls were made on strategy, the car was quick, and the team did a great job.
“We were a bit unlucky as we had to start from the pit lane, but it’s nice to be back in the points with Esteban as well. The team is working incredibly hard, we’re getting there step-by-step, and we still have things to work on, but we’re on the right path.”
