Aston Villa have signed former Manchester United defender, Victor Lindelöf on a free transfer.

Lindelöf left Man Utd in June after he scored four goals across 284 appearances in eight seasons, during which he helped them clinch the 2022-23 Carabao Cup and 2023-24 FA Cup titles and finished runner-up in 2020-21 and 24-25 Europa League Finals.

The 31 year-old defender received offers from Italy’s Fiorentina plus Utd’s Premier League rival, Everton, but ultimately decided to accept Villa’s offer of a two-year contract until June 2027 with an extra one-year option until June 2028.

Lindelöf began his career with IK Franke, Vasteras IK and Vasteras SK where he won Sweden’s Division 1 Norra in 2010 before he moved to Benfica two years later, where he made his senior breakthrough in a 1-0 Portuguese Cup victory against CD Cinfaes, but had to wait until the 2015-16 season to become a first-team regular.

He subsequently left in June 2017 for Man Utd having scored twice in 73 appearances across four seasons during which Benfica won three Primeira Liga, two Taca de Portugal plus Taca da Liga and Supertaca Candido de Oliveira titles.
