Bournemouth have signed Scottish attacking midfielder, Ben Doak for £25m from Liverpool.
Doak’s move to the Vitality Stadium comes after he scored three goals and contributed seven assists in 24 appearances on loan at Middlesbrough last season, until a knee injury curtailed his campaign last season.
Bournemouth nevertheless considered Doak the ideal fit to replace Dango Ouattara who left the Cherries for Brentford over the weekend, with a £25m offer accepted albeit with a buy-back clause for Liverpool within the deal.
Doak has signed a five-year contract until June 2030 and will wear the number 11 shirt this season, as he spoke to afcb.co.uk of his excitement at the move.
“I’m buzzing to be here. I feel like it’s the right time for me and it’s a great opportunity to play regular football at the highest level. It feels like the perfect fit.
“The team play very nice football. It’s fast and it really suits my game, so I felt like I couldn’t say no to the chance to play here.”
Doak began his career at Dairy Rovers before he spent time at Ayr United and Celtic within their youth academies, before he graduated at the latter to make two senior appearances.
Liverpool subsequently swooped for Doak in March 2022 and he proceeded to make his senior debut in November of that year as a substitute in the Reds’ third-round Carabao Cup win over Derby County on penalties.
The now 19-year-old since made 10 appearances for Liverpool and spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough to gain regular game time, which saw him start 21 of his 24 appearances on Teesside.
Doak represents Scotland at international level with six senior caps since he was first called up for the Tartan Army’s UEFA Euro 2024 warm-up friendlies in summer 2024, although he didn’t make the final squad due to injury.
