Five Lionesses headline the 2025 Women’s Ballon d’Or nominations as the full shortlist is announced.
Arsenal’s Chloe Kelly leads the chosen Lionesses after she struck the match winner as England beat Spain on penalties in the final to retain their UEFA Women’s Euro crown,
Kelly is joined on the shortlist by her club and national teammates, Alessia Russo and Leah Williamson after the trio helped Arsenal clinch the UEFA Women’s Champions League title.
Chelsea’s Lucy Bronze and Hannah Hampton are the two other Lionesses to be nominated, having played integral part in the Lionesses’ title defence and also helped Chelsea achieve a domestic treble.
Barcelona and Spain midfielder, Aitana Bonmati is also on the 30-player shortlist as is her teammate, Alexia Putellas, as the pair battle for a third title – with Bonmati having won the two recent editions of the award.

In one of two new additional women’s categories, Michelle Agyemang headlines the Women’s Kopa shortlist after her equalisers rescued England from near-shock exits to Sweden and Italy at UEFA Women’s Euro 2025, where the Lionesses ultimately defended their title.
Agyemang however faces tough competition from Colombia’s Linda Caicedo and Spain’s Vicky Lopez, whilst Chelsea’s Wieke Kaptein and Club Olimpia’s Claudia Martinez Ovando complete the shortlist.
The Yashin Trophy also will have a women’s category for the first time in the award’s history, with Chelsea and England’s Hampton headlining the nominees, but will face competition from ex Blue, Ann-Katrin Berger plus Arsenal’s Daphne van Domselaar.
Brighton’s Chiamaka Nnadozie and Barcelona’s Cata Coll round off the list of nominations.
Women’s Club of the Year nominations are headlined by England’s domestic treble winners, Chelsea, whilst WSL runner-up and UEFA Women’s Champions League winners, Arsenal have also been shortlisted.
Barcelona, Lyon and Orlando Pride are too in contention for the award after domestic successes.
Sarina Wiegman leads the Women’s Coach of the Year nominations following her third consecutive UEFA Women’s Euro title success, having first achieved the feat with Netherlands in 2017 then with England in 2022 & 25 respectively.
Sonia Bompastor will be a strong contender after she led Chelsea to a domestic treble in her first season in charge, whilst Arsenal’s Renee Slegers is shortlisted following the Gunners’ UEFA Women’s Champions League title success.
Brazil’s Arthur Elias and Nigeria’s Justine Madugu round out the shortlist.
Across in the men’s categories, Liverpool winger, Mohamed Salah headlines the Ballon d’Or shortlist ahead of Liverpool teammates, Alexis Mac Allister, Florian Wirtz and Virgil van Dijk.
New Arsenal signing, Viktor Gyokeres is also nominated alongside; Erling Haaland, Declan Rice, Cole Palmer and Napoli’s Scott McTominay amongst other nominations.
Legends, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo who share 15 Ballon d’Ors between them have been snubbed for a second consecutive year.
Ex Bournemouth defender, Dean Huijsen plus Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly headline the Men’s Kopa Trophy Shortlist but Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal is considered the early favourite, whilst new Chelsea signing – Estevao Willian is another strong contender.
PSG’s Desire Doue and Joao Neves will do battle in the category, whilst Pau Cubarsi, Ayyoub Bouaddi, Rodrigo Mora and Kenan Yildiz round out the shortlist.
Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez will seek to defend his Men’s Yashin Trophy which he won in 2023 & 24 but face tough competition from Nottingham Forest’s Matz Sels and Liverpool’s Alisson Becker, whilst Arsenal’s David Raya is too shortlisted.
Yassine Bounou, Lucas Chevalier, Thibaut Courtois, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Jan Oblak and Yann Sommer round out the nominees in that category.
Chelsea and Liverpool will battle it out for the Men’s Club of the Year gong against Barcelona, Botafogo and PSG.
Chelsea’s Enzo Maresca headlines the Men’s Coach of the Year nominations after he led the Blues to UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup titles in his first season at Stamford Bridge.
Liverpool’s Arne Slot is also up for the award but the pair face tough competition from PSG’s Luis Enrique whilst Barcelona’s Hansi Flick and Napoli’s Antonio Conte round out the short list.
Gerd Muller Trophy winners and Socrates Award winner will be announced at the ceremony on 22 September at Theatre du Chatelet, Paris, France.
