Brighton & Hove Albion have signed defender, Diego Coppola from Hellas Verona for £9m.
Coppola’s move comes after two impressive seasons for Hellas Verona, which saw him earn a call-up for Italy last month in which he started in a 3-0 away loss to Norway then 2-0 home win over Moldova in their 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
His performances consequently caught Brighton’s eye and the Seagulls swooped to sign the 21-year-old in a deal estimated to be around £9m, having seen off competition from Juventus who had too shown interest in Coppola.
Coppola has signed a five-year contract at the AMEX Stadium until June 2030.
Head Coach, Fabian Hurzeler described Coppola as “an exciting addition” to the team who will bring extra physicality in defence.
“Although he is still young, he is tall, strong and mobile and he will give us a real physical presence.”
Coppola began his career at Hellas Verona where he graduated through their youth ranks and went on to score four goals in 86 appearances since his senior debut in December 2021, which came as a substitute in a 4-3 Coppa Italia defeat to Empoli.
