Forward, Harry McKirdy has completed a free transfer from Bromley to Crawley.
McKirdy joined Andy Woodman’s Ravens on a free transfer shortly after he left Hibernian in January and went on to score twice in nine appearances, including a memorable goal in a dramatic 2-2 draw against Walsall at Hayes Lane in March as Bromley eventually finished 11th in their first EFL season.
The 28-year-old however declined a chance to extend his stay in South-East London to reunite with Crawley boss, Scott Lindsey, who previously managed McKirdy during their time together at Swindon after he initially was assistant manager in 2021-22 season before his promotion in June 2022.
Upon confirmation of his move to Crawley, McKirdy spoke of his happiness to reunite with Lindsey as they target an instant promotion back to League One.
“It’s really nice to be here, it feels good to link back up with Lindsey again, and hopefully I can help get the boys promoted back up to League One and be a part of it again.
“When I worked with Scott before, it was the best time that I had in football, and we had some good times together, so I am hoping that I can rekindle them.”
Lindsey added that McKirdy “is a fantastic talent” who he hopes will become a fan favourite like he had done during his brief stint at Bromley.
“The fans are going to love Harry; he’s a great character, and he will score and create goals. He’s a signing that we really wanted and worked hard to get, so we are pleased to get it over the line.”
In his first interview as a Crawley player, McKirdy acknowledged his time at Bromley and admitted that he actually planned to stay with the Ravens until Lindsey and Sporting Director, Tobias Phoenix convinced him to make the move.
“I enjoyed it there and looked like I was going to be staying there, but I spoke to Lind and Tobias, it was just something that my gut was telling me to do and to come and back myself here and to be part of it and the way they play football and hope to be part of something good.”
McKirdy began his career at Aston Villa where he made no senior appearances amidst loans at Stevenage, Crewe Alexandra and Newport County, before he went on to join Carlisle for one season.
Further spells at Port Vale then Swindon – where he netted 26 goals in 49 appearances before he moved to Hibernian in September 2022.
The new season will see McKirdy not only come up against Bromley but also Crewe, Newport and Swindon out of his former teams, with provisional fixture dates set to be confirmed on Thursday 26 June at 12pm BST when the 2025-26 League Two fixture list is announced.
