2025 UEFA Women’s Nations League: League A3 – Spain vs England

Spain meet England in a blockbuster showdown to decide the League A3 winners in 2025 UEFA Women’s Nations League.

Victory or a draw will be enough for Spain to secure top spot and advance to the knockout stages.

Sarina Wiegman’s Lionesses must win to finish top of the group and secure a first appearance in the knockout stages of this tournament.

Team News

Spain have no fresh injury concerns to report following their 5-1 victory away to Belgium, although defender – Laia Codina withdrew prior to that game through injury.

England will be without midfielder, Grace Clinton after she picked up her second booking of the campaign in their 6-0 home win over Portugal.

Alessia Russo and Ella Toone are both available for selection, after minor injuries forced the pair to sit out the win over Portugal.

When is Kick-Off?

Spain host England at RCDE Stadium, Barcelona, on Tuesday 3 June at 7pm CEST (6pm UK Time), live on ITV1 and ITVX in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Spain lost their only previous Women’s Nations League meeting against England by 1-0 result, albeit away at Wembley Stadium in February.
  • England are making their first away visit to Spain in the Women’s Nations League, but have lost just one of their last five visits in all competitions (W1, D3, L1).
  • Spain are yet to beat England at home this century (D2, L1), with their sole win over the Lionesses having come in September 1996 in UEFA Women’s Euro 1997 Qualifying Play-Offs.
  • Both teams have scored in four of their five previous meetings on Spanish soil except for a goalless draw in their first clash in December 1993.
  • Esther Gonzalez has scored four goals in Spain’s last three matches (W3).
  • England have avoid defeat when they scored first in four of their five matches in this edition’s group phase (W3, D1).

Prediction

With top spot and qualification in their own hands, Spain come into this crunch game off the back of three dominant victories but their defence haven’t kept a clean sheet in six matches, which has to be a worry because their clinical attack might not be enough in a tough game like this.

England meanwhile have renewed confidence after they battered Portugal in a ruthless display but Wiegman is right in that this is a different game, and I do feel like they will have to go for the counter-attacking style like they did at home if want to snatch victory.

Their away record on Spanish soil is also strong against the world champions and if they can defend as well as they did at home, I can see them doing a smash-and-grab but Spain will likely get at least one goal on their home turf.

Prediction: Spain 1-2 England

Result: Spain 2-1 England
