Roundup of a massive weekend in the race for a top-five finish in 2024-25 Premier League.

Second-half headers from Gabriel Martinelli and Mikel Merino saw Arsenal snatch a comeback 2-2 draw at champions – Liverpool amidst Merino’s subsequent red card, after Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz put the Reds ahead at half-time.

Goals from Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes lifted Newcastle up to third with a clinical 2-0 win over ten-men Chelsea at St James’ Park, during which the fifth-placed Blues’ Nicolas Jackson was red carded for an elbow on Sven Botman.

Manchester City slipped to fourth following a scruffy goalless draw at rock-bottom Southampton – which saw the Saints avoid tying Derby’s record for lowest points tally in the Premier League era.

Ollie Watkins became Aston Villa’s all-time top Premier League goalscorer with a clinical close-range winner at Bournemouth in the sixth minute of first-half injury-time, although the Villains finished a man down after Jacob Ramsey’s 80th-minute red card for a second bookable offence.

Forest slipped to seventh with a 2-2 draw at home to Leicester after Morgan Gibbs-White and Chris Wood headed them ahead from behind following Conor Coady’s opening header for the Foxes as Facundo Buonanotte rescued the visitors a late point

Elsewhere, Brentford continued their late charge towards a potential eighth-placed finish with a narrow victory at Ipswich through Kevin Schade’s 18th-minute header, which put the Bees up to eighth and in control of their destiny heading into the final two matchweeks of the season.

Brighton sat in ninth on goal difference after Danny Welbeck’s penalty and Brajan Gruda’s chipped finish saw the Seagulls claim a 2-0 away win at Wolves.

Fulham’s hopes of finishing eighth were dealt a huge blow after they suffered a 3-1 loss at home to Everton, having initially led through Raul Jimenez’s early effort before Michael Keane and Beto completed the Toffees’ comeback following Vitaliy Mykolenko’s equaliser.

Eberechi Eze’s brace saw Crystal Palace clinch their first victory over Tottenham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with a 2-0 win.

Man Utd suffered a 2-0 loss at home to West Ham as Tomas Soucek and Jarrod Bowen netted either side of half time.
