2024-25 Premier League: Week 37 – Everton vs Southampton

Everton host Southampton in the last-ever Premier League match to be played at Goodison Park.

Victory will see Everton remain in 13th position for another matchweek, whilst Southampton are already assured of finishing rock-bottom.

Team News

Jake O’Brien could return for Everton after he missed their comeback 3-1 victory at Fulham due to a knee injury.

Orel Mangala (knee), Jesper Lindstrom (hernia) and James Tarkowski (hamstring) remain sidelined.

Southampton have no fresh injury concerns to report after their goalless draw against Manchester City, although Kyle Walker-Peters could return after he missed that game due to illness.

When is Kick-Off?

Everton host Southampton at Goodison Park on Sunday 18 May at 12pm BST, live on TNT Sports 1 in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Everton have won three of their last seven league meetings against Southampton (W3, L4).
  • Southampton have won just one of their last 18 top-flight visits to Everton (W1, D5, L12).
  • Everton have never lost three consecutive Premier League meetings against Southampton.
  • Jordan Pickford has created more passes than any other Everton player this season (1,339).
  • No Southampton player has produced more top-flight shots this season than Matheus Fernandes (40).

Prediction

Despite getting battered for much of the game at Fulham, Everton managed to dig in defensively and ultimately proved the more clinical side whilst Jordan Pickford’s superb saves were excellent because the Cottagers otherwise could of either cruised to victory after their first goal or at least got a draw on another day.

Southampton meanwhile were defensively brilliant in a game where they realistically stood little chance yet they sat back and soaked up City’s attack with composure, but they will now need to come out and attack more in a game which feels winnable with the right approach.

Everton however won’t want to leave Goodison Park on a whimper and with a sell-out home crowd, I can see them achieving the perfect send-off if they just play their game as Southampton will be more open here, but the Saints won’t make it easy if defend like they did last weekend.

Prediction: Everton 2-0 Southampton

Result: Everton 2-0 Southampton
