Roundup of latest Championship action as the race for automatic promotion produced more twists.

Burnley began the matchweek as league leaders but stuttered to a goalless draw away at Derby.

Sheffield United failed to capitalise on the Clarets’ slip-up with a surprise 1-0 loss at home to Millwall, as Josh Coburn netted a 21st minute winner for the visiting Lions.

Leeds consequently went top on goal difference from Burnley with a narrow win away at Middlesbrough, as Dan James’ second-minute goal proved the difference.

Fourth-placed Sunderland missed a chance to further reignite their faint chances of automatic promotion with a goalless draw at Norwich.

Haydon Roberts rifled in a 96th-minute winner to lift Bristol City above Middlesbrough and up to fifth with a 2-1 home win over ten-men West Brom, after Nakhi Wells’ opener was cancelled out by Alex Mowatt before Jayson Molumby was red carded for the Baggies in the 89th minute.

Jamie Paterson’s 94th-minute winning volley lifted Coventry into the final play-off with a 1-0 victory at home to Portsmouth.

Down in the relegation zone, Plymouth remain rock-bottom following a 3-0 defeat away at Swansea as Lewis O’Brien, Harry Darling and Josh Key netted before half-time.

Millenic Alli’s injury-time goal saw second-bottom Luton move to within two points of safety with a 1-1 draw at Stoke, after Lewis Baker had put the Potters into a 74th-minute lead through his free-kick.

Cardiff remain third-bottom but now just one point from safety after second-half goals from Will Alves and Yakou Meite salvaged a 2-2 draw at Preston, having twice fallen behind to goals from Milutin Osmajic and Stefan Thordarson.

Ronnie Edwards’ seventh-minute goal coupled with Ole Romeny’s own-goal and an injury-time goal from Yang Min-hyeok saw QPR win 3-1 away at Oxford United, despite Stan Mills’ consolatory effort for the Us.

Finally, Moussa Sissoko’s 55th-minute winner saw Watford scrape past Hull at Vicarage Road in a closely-fought fixture.
