League leaders, Leeds saw their 17-match unbeaten league run ended with a surprise 1-0 loss at Portsmouth, as Colby Bishop’s strike proved the difference.

Tyrese Campbell’s headed 56th minute winner saw Sheffield United beat Preston 1-0 at home, which moved Chris Wilder’s Blades level with Leeds but still sat second on goal difference.

Kal Naismith’s red card for Luton and Mark McGuiness’s own-goal sent Burnley on their way to an eventual 4-0 home win over the second-bottom Hatters, in which Lyle Foster, Josh Brownhill and Ashley Barnes also found the net.

Chris Mepham netted his first Sunderland goal to snatch a 2-1 home win for the Black Cats against Cardiff, having initially taken a second-minute lead through Eliezer Mayenda’s strike which was cancelled out by Isaak Davies before half-time.

Bobby Thomas’ 97th minute winner saw Coventry continue their resurgence with a fifth consecutive league win as they beat Stoke in a dramatic 3-2 thriller, having led through Victor Torp’s first-half brace before Sam Gallagher struck twice for the Potters in the second half.

West Brom rounded out the top six with Adam Armstrong’s 40th-minute penalty winner over QPR, although the Baggies finished a man down following Darnell Furlong’s red card on the stroke of half-time.

Down in the relegation zone, Derby climbed off the foot of the table and up to third-bottom after early goals from Craig Forsyth and Ebou Adams proved enough to beat Blackburn 2-1 at Pride Park, despite Makhtar Gueye halving the visitors’ deficit before half-time.

Plymouth slipped back to the foot of the table with a 3-0 home loss to Sheffield Wednesday which was started by Nathanael Ogbeta’s own-goal, before Callum Paterson and Djeidi Gassama struck either side of half-time to wrap up the Owls’ victory.

Hull moved five points clear of the drop after Joao Pedro’s strike despite his subsequent red card earned them a 1-1 draw at Bristol City, after Anis Mehmeti equalised for the hosts with a 54th minute penalty.
