Swedish defender, Emil Krafth has signed an one-year contract extension until June 2026 at Newcastle United.

The 30 year-old Swedish international has scored one goal in 93 appearances for Newcastle since he moved to the club in August 2019, and his contract was set to expire this summer but Krafth has now signed a new one-year extension to stay on Tyneside until June 2026.

Following confirmation of his new contract, Krafth spoke of feeling “delighted” to stay with the Magpies at “an exciting time” for the team, who have reached the Carabao Cup Final where they will face Liverpool on 16 March, whilst the Magpies are still in the hunt for the FA Cup this season.

“We have a lot to play for throughout the rest of this season, and I’m looking forward playing my part in helping the team finish the season in a positive way.

“It feels like home here for both me and my family, having been here for such a long time. We all enjoy everything about being part of this club, and I love playing for Newcastle United.”

Newcastle manager, Eddie Howe added that he is “delighted” to retain Krafth who he considers to be “… an incredible professional in the way he trains, plays and conducts himself.

“He offers us versatility in defensive positions, which is vital to have, along with vast experience and a steadying influence. He will continue to be an important part of our squad on and off the pitch.”

Newcastle’s sporting director, Paul Mitchell iterated that Krafth adds balance and versatility to the squad in defence, as he added: “Emil can play across different defensive positions and he gives the first team squad important balance.

“He is ultra-professional, and given his experience both at club and international level, it made it a simple decision for the club to extend his contract.”
