Middlesbrough meet Millwall in a huge clash as both clubs look to boost their promotion ambitions. 

Victory will lift Middlesbrough onto the summit of the table, whilst Millwall can go sixth if Bristol City fail to beat Lincoln City.

Alfie Jones is ruled out for Middlesbrough after he was substituted at half time in their 4-3 win against Norwich, due to a calf injury.

Millwall have no fresh injury concerns following their 3-1 loss at Blackburn on Saturday afternoon.

Lukas Jensen (quad), Alfie Doughty, Ryan Leonard, Mihailo Ivanovic, Mathis Servais (all hamstring), Tristian Crama (ankle), Josh Coburn, Luke Cundle (foot), Kyrell Lisbie and Casper De Norre (both calf) remain sidelined.

• Middlesbrough have won three of their last five meetings against Millwall (W3, L2).
• Millwall have won just two of their last 10 league trips to Middlesbrough (W2, D3, L5).
• Kim Hellberg’s Boro are yet to lose at home this season in all competitions (W4).
• Millwall have won just one of their three away league games so far this season (W1, L2), during which they scored four goals and conceded eight goals.

 

Prediction

With a chance to go top after their dramatic win over Norwich which demonstrated their attacking quality yet exposed their defensive fragility more, Middlesbrough really need to sort out their defensive sloppiness if want to build their goal difference more.

Millwall meanwhile just haven’t clicked on the road in their last two away outings but they are missing some quality players in Coburn, De Norre and Ivanovic, which is clearly having an impact especially coming into a game where they ideally need a win to boost their early-season promotion ambitions.

There however will probably be rotation for both clubs but on current form, Middlesbrough should have enough firepower to get the win but I still expect Millwall to put up a good fight.
